A tireless campaigner for justice
Paul Foot was an investigative journalist known for his relentless pursuit of justice and exposure of corruption. A staunch socialist, for nearly 50 years he was the scourge of corrupt politicians and dodgy businessmen, the tormentor of the powerful, champion of the poor and downtrodden. His was an eloquent voice for a just society until his death in 2004.

Paul was a prolific writer for Private Eye, the Daily Mirror, the Guardian, Socialist Worker and the London Review of Books. A lifelong campaigner for press freedom, he remains a revered figure in British journalism.
Socialist
First and foremost a writer for Socialist Worker, Paul was also a prolific public speaker and campaigner. He became a Marxist in the early 1960s and never wavered in his belief in the power of socialism from below.
Writer
Paul’s many books range from how politicians exploit racism to win votes, to the politics of poetry. They expose miscarriages of justice, and how ordinary people are failed by parliamentary democracy.
Life
Born in 1937 in Palestine into a family of methodists, Liberals and book lovers, his life provides a running commentary on the second half of the twentieth century.
