A political and cultural weekly magazine founded in 1913 by the Fabians and Beatrice and Sidney Webb.

New Statesman

Paul had a soft spot for the New Statesman as he was encouraged to read it as a schoolboy in the 1950s, when it was considered very radical under the editorship of Kingsley Martin. Paul wrote occasional pieces, but in the hiatus between leaving Socialist Worker and joining the Daily Mirror, he had a number of regular columns.
