When Margaret Thatcher became Prime Minister in May 1979 the Daily Mirror decided it needed to sharpen up its opposition to her new Conservative Government. The editor thought Paul might be just the person to do it. He was chuffed to be asked and did not disappoint. ‘Paul Foot Reporting’ began its weekly outing in October 1979, when the Mirror was still Britain’s largest circulation tabloid newspaper with a working class readership that ran into the millions.
